Tiffany had days of contractions which led to confusion on when was the right moment to get to the hospital (I guess here is where I remind everyone of her last birth which took place on the side of the interstate, en route to the hospital). The morning of September 13, Tiffany called around 6:30 letting me know that contraction didn't seem intense but they were around 6 minutes apart. The doctor thought they should make their way to the hospital. I met them at triage a little after 7 a.m. where we learned that Tiffany was dilated to 3cm - no change from her appointment the previous day. Many flights of stairs later and with some different positions in between, we were back at triage - no change. Rather than go home we opted to stay close by to eat breakfast and walk around. It became clear that walking around in public was only awkward and uncomfortable. So back to the hospital we went to use their stairs....did I mention stairs? Yeah, that was a major part of her labor. Hours later we stopped by triage and again no change. A little resting, more stairs, more positions and triage (noticing a pattern here). I think we all knew something was different as it was clear by Tiffany's demeanor that her contractions had become more intense. Moments after settling in to triage, her water broke and when checked she was at 4cm. Yay!! Finally time to move into a room.
Tiffany, you must be meant for birthing babies - not more than two hours later she shocked us all when she rolled from her side to her back and with no warning at all gave one long continuous push. That's when baby Louis made his first appearance into the world! The doctor did not make it back to the room and the nurse had barely enough time to put gloves on. Louis Michael was born at 5:31 p.m., weighing 6lbs 7oz and 20" long. What a sweet surprise it was to find this baby was a BOY!!! Congratulations Tiffany and Ben!
